So it begins...

Dear Salisbury: 45 days my eye.

Ok- just kidding, but that promise is slightly exaggerated. The house might be built that fast (we'll see) but since we began this home building process it seems like time is going soooooooo sloooow. It has now been 6 weeks since we signed paperwork and we are waiting for our permit from the city.

We want to document the process for ourselves and maybe some future Salisbury buyers/neighbors/friends will be able to use this blog as a resource for their house! Salisbury has been great to work with so far...

We chose our lot in February and at that point we went to the design center to pick out our options. That part was a little overwhelming and wow do the options add up fast! Although there is certainly a generic look when you build a home like this, I felt like there were enough choices to reflect my own personal taste and we din't think the cost of upgrades was that much more than we would spend down the road to make changes...so as these things go we spent a little more that we originally anticipated, but I think we will be thankful in the long run. Our new motto is "Wrap it up in the mortgage!"

I am glad I knew what I wanted when we went to pick out options since the process could become very long and tiresome if you didn't. There were a few things I wanted (such as a custom paint color I liked, different tile on the backsplash etc...) that they were willing to do and we are not a afraid to ask for something just because it isn't a given option doesn't mean it isn't possible... but knowing what you want and making a list before you go in helps a lot. Sometimes it costs extra, but if it's comparable materials they can do it for the same price.

Our lot is about 1/3 of an acre and faces Pine Valley Mountain in Little Valley (St. George)... At this point there was not road so these pictures are from the back facing forward:

About a week ago we went for a drive and it looks like they are getting ready to do something... the preparations for the foundation are underway and we were told that as soon as they get the permit its go time! yay!!!

We were excited when the road in front of our house went in because it gave us a better idea of how our neighborhood looked and exactly how big our lot was!
